Many people, from many countries, have come together to help to create this virtual world environment; computer experts, artists, people who work in the fields of artificial intelligence and development of education in virtual worlds, educators, members of multiple countries' armed services and more.
All are motivated by the desire to make a difference in the world, to create community, to alleviate suffering. The creation of this project, with the support of Linden Labs, has been an entirely volunteer effort. No one has been paid and all have given their best.
The concept for First Responder as an environment for training people to meet emergencies effectively was the idea of members of CP-MI (Catastrophic Planning and Management Institute). It sprang out of their real life experiences of working on the management of emergency responses to Hurricanes Katrina, Ike, and other events.
First Responder Trainers are people from many walks of life who all have real life first responder experience and are qualified to teach others.
White Tiger For First Responder (part of White Tiger Mentors) will trainand certify all trainees in how to function in Second Life using the Firestorm Viewer. This is so that the trainees can easily participate in the virtual First Responder Training within Second Life.
White Tiger Mentors is an established service organization in Second Life that teaches people how to function within the virtual world of Second Life in terms of movement, social interaction and use of the viewer interface.
