Preparatory Second Life Training

Is for those who are new to Second Life or for those Second Life residents who do not use the Firestorm viewer.

 

Trainees must pass preparatory training with White Tiger Mentors for First Responder before they can move on to the First Responder Training.

 

If you are already familiar with SL it will be necessary for you to demonstrate that you can function effectively within Second Life using the Firestorm viewer.

 

First Responder Training

Consists of a 30 hour course spread over a number of days with some flexibility to accommodate individual schedules.

 

Upon completion of the training you will be certified by CPMI and CRF for Introductory Disaster Team Co-ordination.

 

To participate

In the program you will need a reference from one of the following:

 

  • Office of Emergency Management
  • Your local Fire Department or other civil organization
  • Private industry if your industry has a public service effort in this area
  • Community service organization
  • Church, Synagogue, Temple or Mosque
  • School

The 30 Hour First Responder Course

The course is led by an experienced real life First Responder.
Maximum number of trainees in any team is 7.

 

Session One: Orientation

  • Forming of team
  • Defining skills to be developed

 

Session Two: Familiarization

  • Familiarization with the First Responder Sim
  • Second Life hunt to find items needed for equipment bags

 

Session Three: Scenario Planning

  • Emergency Scenario to be dealt with is laid out
  • Trainees create a plan and list of resources required for response
  • Trainer reviews plan with group including their command and integration structure
  • Who do they need to do what?
  • What manuals and policy understanding do they need?

 

Session Four: Run Scenario

  • Run the scenario working from their plan
  • Debrief - what worked and what didn't

 

Session Five: Review & Rerun

  • Review and rerun the scenario
  • Discussion and evaluation
  • Areas for improvement
  • Next steps

 

Upon completion the trainees will
be certified by CPMI and CRF for Introductory Disaster
Team Co-ordination.
